AAA Pump & Well Service has been performing water testing for homes and businesses in northern Illinois since 1978. As you may know, municipal water systems are regulated by the government and are conditioned to be free of dangerous bacteria and parasites.
Unfortunately, private water systems that rely on wells are the responsibility of the property owner. As such its especially important to test your well if humans and animals use it for drinking water.
When Should You Test Your Well Water?
Bacteria are everywhere and most are harmless. Some bacteria, however, can cause serious health conditions in humans and animals. Your well should be tested annually.
One of the major types of bacteria that we test for is coliform. Coliform is a broad type of bacteria that infects the digestive tracts of animals and humans. If your laundry or plumbing fittings are starting to stain, your well needs to be tested for iron bacteria. If you are in a rural area, your well should also be tested annually for farming chemicals, nitrates, and nitrites. Another type of water testing to consider checks for the E. coli bacterium. These tests should be highly considered, especially if your septic system has had problems.

Our Well Testing Process
Prior to having AAA Pump & Well Service conduct any water testing, we highly recommend having a well inspection and cleaning. By having a well inspection and cleaning, you reduce the chance of a false positive reading. In addition to false positives, a dirty well can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Once bacterial tests are completed, an assessment can be made about what action (if any) needs to be taken.
If your well water tests positive for harmful bacteria or contaminants, then water treatment is necessary. AAA Pump & Well Service will consult with you regarding the best water treatment product for your situation.
